Day 19- Fogo Island

This morning after coffee we walked the Brimstone Head Trail which started right in our campground.  It wasn't very long, but quite steep with a lot of stairs.  It was also extremely windy.  This area was said to be one of the 4 corners of the earth by the Flat Earth Society.  We then took a short break, had a drink and walked to the next trail which was the Fogo Head Trail.  It was much longer and also quite steep but the views were great.  The wind was still hollowing and it felt like we were going to get blown off the top.  We had quite a long walk home on the roads after this hike, but we got to see a large part of the town.  After lunch we watched the church service.  Right at the end of the service, when we were just finishing communion, we saw a tent blow past and our neighbour made a valiant attempt to catch it before it plopped into the ocean.  The owner of the tent soon followed it and he waded in to try to rescue it to no avail.  Pete noticed that it was going to drift to the edge of a rocky outcropping where the neighbour and I headed while Pete went for a tossing rope.  The neighbour, Jim, got a hold of one of the poles, but then that pulled right out and I made a lunge for the tent just before it was going to drift by.  We had it and then Pete joined us and we were able to pull the tent out of the water while draining it.  Some of the poles broke, but he was able to repair it and put it up again.  It had blown right out of the amphitheatre where he had set it up because of the wind.  Quite the excitement.

We then went to the Bangbelly Bistro for supper on our bikes.  The owner of the bistro and the chef was formerly the chef of the renowned Fogo Island Inn.  The food was amazing.  We had an appetizer of brussel sprouts with bacon, red onions, and partridge berries that was unspeakably delicious.  For our meals Pete had a meatloaf burger and I had cod with partridge berry tarter sauce and we both had hand cut fries.  Yummy!

We then biked through the rest of the town and retired for the evening back to the campground.
