Day 15 - Trinity, Port Rexton, Elliston
This morning we headed to Trinity which was a very old town of mostly merchant houses. There were very few fishermen here. There was a big Mercantile where the area people, including fishermen from up and down the coast, would purchase their goods on the truck system (trade of goods for fish or other commodities). We also toured the Hiscox House which Emma Hiscox moved into as a newly wed. In 10 years she was left a widow with 6 children. She had already been a shop-keeper but she then started to rent out her house while she lived in a smaller rented house and she became the post mistress and still ran her store. She was a real entrepreneur for her time. After that we went to Trinity East and walked the Skerwink Trail which was about 6 km. It was a beautiful walk with many lookouts to observe the many sea stacks. We then went to the Port Rexton brewery which featured a local selection of beer as well as a food truck that served the best grilled cheese sandwiches you've ever had. Mine was cheddar cheese with blueberry compote with a balsamic vinegar reduction and Pete's was cheddar chees with red onions, dill pickles and garlic mayo. Unbelievable! We also shared a plate of french fries that were divine. That was about 2 that we ate and supper was no longer required. We carried on to Elliston which boasts the most outdoor root cellars. They dot the hillsides. They also host a colony of puffins which we visited. We camped very near the puffins and root cellars in their municipal park. It overlooked the ocean and was very lovely.

I loved this area! The puffins are so cool, and the brewery is great!
