Day 13 - Brigus

We left our campground just before 10 and stopped for coffee in a lovely town called Holyrood, right at the harbourfront.  It was quite a large town and a stop on the Newfoundland rail trail.  We carried on to Brigus.  It was a town established in the early 1600s.  We hiked from the town to their lighthouse.  It was a 4 km walk each way and very up and down and rugged.  There were blueberries growing everywhere along the trail.  We ate more blueberries than we ever have in our lives.  They were delicious.  The hike pretty much wore us out.  It was a very warm day, 25 degrees.  We stopped to have lunch in the only cafe that was open since it was the holiday Monday.  I had Seafood Chowder and Pete had a clubhouse sandwich.  The food was very good, but the wait was unbelievable.  We didn't really care as we were finally sitting.  Haha.

We then walked to the Brigus Tunnel which was built through the rock to access the bay for ease of unloading ships in the 1800s.

We carried on to Winterton on Trinity Bay.  We had a fabulous campground in the bush and it had a 'pond' which we would call a lake.  We right away went swimming to wash off all the sweat of the day.  It was heavenly and our first swim on our trip.

Now it's time for a drink and some chips.

Another great day!
